Day 1

Over the weekend, here’s what happened in the world of sports.

In the MLB, the New York Yankees went up 3-1 over the Phillies.

In NCAA Football, the USC Trojans(5) lost BIG to the Oregon(10) Ducks, 47-20. The Florida Gators won against the Georgia Bulldogs, 41-17. The only Top 25 losers were #13 Virginia Tech Hookies, who lost to the University of North Carolina Tarheels 20-17; #21 West Virginia Mountaineers, who lost to the University of South Florida Bulls 30-19; #22 South Carolina Gamecocks, who lost to the Tennessee Volunteers 31-13; and # 25 Ole Miss(Mississippi), who lost to Auburn 33-20.

In the NFL, the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, St.Louis Rams, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings won. Bye Weeks were the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington Redskins.

Over in the MLS, the New England Revolution defeated the Chicago Fire in the first leg of their playoff series 2-1. The LA Galaxy and Chivas USA tied in their first leg 2-2. The way the playoffs work is a 2-leg playoff with most goals winning. If the teams have equal goals after the second leg, the game is taken to an overtime perioed. If still tied, they go to penalty kicks.

Anyway, in the NBA, the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, and Denver Nuggets are all undefeated a few games into the season.

In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabers, Colorado Avalance, San Jose Sharks, and Chicago Blackhawks all lead their respective divisions, however; it’s only 10-14 games into the season.

I’ll have some news later in a separate post.
